The Millennium Development Goals (MDG) are development objectives that were adopted by the United Nations and world leaders in 2000 that state specific goals to be achieved by the year 2015 in order to eradicate poverty. The second goal of the MDGS is to achieve universal primary education. The third goal is to promote gender equality and empower women. Studies have shown that providing education to women not only uplifts the individual but also affects the entire community at large. Furthermore the other MDGs such as improve maternal health care and reduce child mortality are also largely affected by the education of women. Educating women will make the difference in eradicating poverty and achieving the MDGs.
